Discourse and Experiment Use Case

Scientific Discourse is a means of communicating about 1- theory, 2- hypothesis, 3- evidence, 4- physical experiments, 5- data and 6- computation and 7- computational experiments. All of these kinds of information categories are both outputs and inputs to processes in the scientific communication activity system.

The purpose of this use case is to develop a framework for linked data access across all seven categories to support development of applications in which information from each category informs the others.

The first three are already integrated in the SWAN-SIOC ontology and the SWAN application and others emerging. The final three are integrated in the myExperiment ontology, the myExperiment web community and the Taverna workflow system. The essential ontology-building task is to develop a semantic description of physical experiments, linking SWAN-SIOC and myExperiment.
