Some notes on marketing for SWAD-Europe
We need to have some form of marketing tool for the project by early May in time for XMLEurope 2003 and later in the month WWW2003.
LibbyMiller suggested a postcard for (for example) distributing in people's conference bags, as we are short on time, and we have a a nice example (pdf) of what a postcard might look like.
Danny Ayers suggested a 'saucy postcard' but it's very british humour and may confuse or even possibly offend some, sadly.
Another idea was to do something that was generated by real data and real code, perhaps like Jim Ley's SVG people map. For this, the plan was to
write a short document explaining nearestAirport and also offering some alternatives (e.g. GEO stuff allowing lat/longs to be described)
- maybe write a little app that generates this RDF for you, keyed off hashed mbox?
write an email to www-rdf-interest asking for contributions, like DanConnolly did for the Webont W3C working group
- harvest them, use Jim's or similar code to generate a Europe-centric map and use that as a postcard. We would also need a short piece of text for the back of the card.
The deadline for this is about 10th April 2003.
On a slightly longer timescale, DanBri had an idea to contact the various Semantic Web institutions and persuade them to produce RSS feeds of for example
- news
events (as RSS+calendar RDF?)
- software announcements (we would need a vocabulary for that)
people? (foaf?)
We could connect this with the geographical information and produce a map of the major research centres which would also provide a means to discover information about them, while having everyone eating their own dogfood.
Suggested centres: KTweb (been in touch with them briefly, they seemed positive), .....
